Thank-You-DDALA

Big THANK YOU to the 661 signers of the Addressing Dyslexia in Alabama Public Schools petition.

Decoding Dyslexia of ALABAMA has partnered with Roundtable Solutions for the 2nd Annual RSA Tower Lightning #DyslexiaDay – Worldwide! along with the Light it Up Red for 1in5 campaign. We will also deliver our petition on October 15, 2014 before the lightning ceremony. To learn more about the public petition presentation, go to: https://www.facebook.com/events/1467168500211286/

Now it’s critical that we kick our petition campaign up a notch! Can you take a moment to make a phone call to The Alabama State House, The Alabama State Senate, and Governor Robert Bentley? Click here to find the phone numbers you need: http://www.commoncause.org/take-action/find-elected-officials/ .

When you call, you don’t need to say a lot—just reiterate the main message of the petition, which is:

“Decoding Dyslexia Alabama is a grassroots movement by Alabama families to address the struggles we face in securing appropriate reading interventions for our children with dyslexia in Alabama public schools. We call on Alabama policy-makers to support students with dyslexia. It is time for Alabama Public Schools to catch up with the science on reading and dyslexia.”

Then, help us keep track of how many calls have been made by clicking here: http://petitions.moveon.org/tools/call.html

WE NEED AS MANY AS POSSIBLE CALLING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. Thank you for your support!  Please share following link and have others sign the petition, go to: http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/addressing-dyslexia-in

About Decoding Dyslexia of Alabama: Our group is made up of parents of children who are dyslexic. We are not experts, nor are we a business or educational organization. We can only offer other parents the benefit of our collective experiences. We encourage parents to meet with their local policy-makers to tell the story of their child, and ask for policies and/or legislation to identify and support dyslexic children in our schools.

About Light It Up Red for 1in5: We are two small town mothers of dyslexic children in Alabama who have one goal: To raise awareness for dyslexia where we CAN. As some of you may know, October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. Last year, on October 15th, the tower in RSA Tower Park in Montgomery, AL was lit with red to raise awareness for dyslexia. This year it will be even bigger as RSA properties all across the great state of Alabama will be lit up as well! This is HUGE! But it doesn’t have to stop there. Together we can light the whole world up in red! We ask that you please join us and show YOUR support on October 15, 2014. Wear red shirts and/or replace your porch light with a red bulb! Please share this page and spread the word to everyone you know, not just in Alabama, but wherever you may be!!
